I see that increasing complexity and uncertainty in today’s business conditions, contributed to the damages in the reflection of leadership’s competence and integrity.
I believe that a leader or manager must clearly demonstrate her own inner as well as outer standards.
I remember my factory manager’s approach. His advice was that “if you make a mistake, you have to inform and take your lesson not for making second time. Standards of punctuality, courtesy, openness and honesty are important factors in your credibility. Set your standards and behave accordingly”.
There are a lot of factors in truly effective leadership. When I coach new managers or leaders, I define the essential factors in leadership integrity. If you are late, your team will be late. If you are on a chair all day, your team will be on chairs all day. If you are creating clubs, clans in the organization, your people will create the same. I see that many organizations have this problem. It is clear that if you rude in all probability others will be too. Slovenly behaviour becomes the norm and standards slip. Credibility is reduced.
Of course, standards of openness, honesty and caring for people are less readily visible and consequently have to be pro-actively pursued. I know that excellence is achieved when the leader or manager perform to raise these standards to the highest possible level and sets the lead in behaving accordingly.
As a coach, I believe that developing people and leaders are a life commitment and it is a lifestyle. I like mentoring and therefore, I develop people and raise up leaders.

I have to say that leaders and managers have to examine clearly their own personal standards in the conduct of their works and ensure that these are consistent with their beliefs and values as well as those of the team.
Such consistency in performing of standards is the basis on which competence and credibility are built by truly effective leaders.
